Understanding Auto Accident Relief in Calgary AB

At Chiropractic Center for Health, our goal is to help patients restore their health in order to live their best lives, especially after it's been compromised after an auto accident. If you've ever been injured in a vehicle crash, multiple studies have shown that there are both short and long-term effects on your health, which can include:

  • Concussion
  • Fractures
  • Irritated or pinched nerves
  • Muscle strains and sprains
  • Inflammation
  • Whiplash
  • Disc degeneration

How Chiropractic Can Help You

It can take days, weeks, or even months to feel pain after an auto accident - but that doesn't mean the physical effects and misalignments are just starting. The longer you go without getting your spine checked after an accident, the more nerve interference and inflammation builds up in your body, which eventually reveals itself as pain or discomfort. This can lead to a chronically reduced range of motion and a decrease in the quality of your life.

When you visit us for your care, we'll take the time to accurately diagnose your issue through a precise physical exam and X-rays depending on the severity of your injury. We know that each patient is different, which is why we'll develop a care plan unique to your needs. To give you the best chance for healing, our practice is also proud to offer Acupuncture, A.R.T. (Active Release Therapy), Prolotherapy, Massage, and Kinesio Taping in addition to chiropractic adjustments.

Does Your Practice Accept Insurance?

Did you know that if you have Alberta insurance, you are automatically qualified for immediate care by qualified professionals including chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists, medical doctors and psychologists, regardless of who is at fault. This care is funded by your insurance company and is not an out-of-pocket expense.

Your auto insurance covers you for a minimum of 10 chiropractic, massage or acupuncture treatments for minor injuries under the Alberta diagnostic treatment protocols regulation and a maximum of 21 treatments within your 90 day protocol. Chiropractic treatment for minor injuries is billed directly to your insurance company-which means you will not have to submit receipts for reimbursement. Make sure you tell your chiropractor that you were injured in a car accident so they can follow the proper steps to have your treatment costs covered.

If you are looking for forms, access them here at the Government of Alberta website

Access the Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation (DTPR) Fee Guideline.

What to do if you are injured

Step 1
Report any injuries to the police and file a claim with your car insurance company. At this point you will be given the contact information for your claims adjuster who will be in regular contact with us throughout your treatments at our clinic.

Step 2
Schedule an appointment as soon as possible following your car accident with a Primary Health Care Practitioner (chiropractor, medical doctor, physical therapist) for an assessment of your injury. Let the front desk know you were recently in a motor vehicle accident.

Step 3
Complete required paperwork, such as our MVA intake form and the AB-1: Notice of Loss and Proof of Claim Form. Our chiropractors will also take the time to accurately diagnose your injuries and fill out the AB-2: Treatment Plan Form with your unique care plan. To give you the best chance for healing, our practice is also proud to offer Acupuncture, Massage, Muscle Release Therapy, Gavilan, Prolotherapy, Psychology and Kinesio Taping in addition to chiropractic adjustments.

Step 4
You will be contacted about the benefits you are entitled to receive after the insurance company reviews the AB-1: Notice of Loss and Proof of Claim Form and AB-2: Treatment Plan Form. If your insurance company needs any additional information to process your application, they will contact you.

Step 5
Follow your prescribed treatment schedule. Your chiropractor will work alongside you to come up with a schedule to help you maximize your treatments and assist you in restoring your health within your 90 day protocol.

Step 6
Completion of treatment-Your chiropractor will be required to fill out an AB-4: Concluding Report Form upon completion of treatment. At this point we will schedule for an MVA re-exam, where one of our Chiropractors will do a final physical exam to determine whether you have reached pre-accident status or require more treatments through the section B portion of your motor vehicle claim.

Section B coverage:

  • Any extended health care coverage is billed prior to section B.
  • Extends for a period of up to 24 months following accident.
  • Direct billing, is dependent on individual insurance companies/adjustors
