Prolotherapy in Calgary AB

Chiropractic Calgary AB Regeneration Therapy

Prolotherapy may be an option for you if you suffer from chronic pain in Calgary AB, unresolved joint pain, recurrent injuries, muscle spasms, joint instability and decreased mobility. Dr. John Scott D.C. will gather a thorough history, palpate your joint structure, and complete the necessary orthopedic tests.

What is Prolotherapy in Calgary AB?

Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection therapy, which stimulates the body's natural healing response in areas of injured tendons and ligaments. By injecting injured ligaments and/or tendons with a mild irritant (dextrose), a mild inflammatory response is triggered to give the body a second chance at healing.

This controlled inflammation creates stronger and healthy tendons and/or ligaments. When function in a joint is restored, pain is decreased and mobility is returned.

IS PROLOTHERAPY SAFE?

Prolotherapy is largely considered a safe treatment both clinically and backed by research. Although the procedure does come with risks, when compared to common alternatives: surgery, cortisone injections, or no treatment; prolotherapy is considered a low risk treatment with a greater upside.

PROLOTHERAPY VS CORTICOSTEROID INJECTIONS

Unlike corticosteroid (cortisone) injections, prolotherapy injections work by healing inquired tissue. Cortisone manages pain by decreasing inflammation, and works in about 30-50% of cases. For some people cortisone injections work well at first, and only 1-3 are required. However, over time with repeated injections the effectiveness of cortisone decreases. Additionally, cortisone has the potential to break down tissue, the opposite of what we do with prolotherapy.

PROLOZONE

Prolozone is a combination of prolotherapy an ozone joint injections. The procedure is largely the same as prolotherapy, simply with the addition of an ozone injection after the high concentration dextrose solution. It is performed during the same injection, so you won't be needled twice in the same area. The addition of ozone adds to the tissue regenerative potential of prolotherapy, increasing its effectiveness.

There is more information about prolozone and other applications of ozone therapy in our "Ozone Therapy" section of the website which you can access here.

Prolotherapy, including prolozone, is a very effective option that offers long-term relief for many people.
